Gameplay

The youngest player goes first and then play continues clockwise around the table.

1. Draw an Encounter card. Flip over the card and read it to the other players. (read more about Encounters)

2. Take your turn. Depending on what type of encounter you drew you may:

  • roll the die to attempt to avoid a trap or solve a puzzle
  • play one or more ability cards
  • play one treasure card
  • use your unique ability from your hero portrait card
  • try to withdraw from combat

If you played any ability cards, redraw new ability cards until you have five in your hand.

3. The next player takes a turn until the encounter is resolved or the game is lost if all the heroes get killed or knocked unconscious.

4. Draw treasure cards. Assuming at least one member of the group survived the encounter, the active player may draw treasure cards. Encounter cards are marked on the bottom right of the card with a treasure chest that has a number next to it. This represents how many cards you may draw from the treasure deck. You may choose to keep the loot for yourself or trade any treasure or artifacts between players. (read more about Treasure)

5. All players take one final turn before the next player starts their turn. Each player may do any one of the following actions:

  • play one end-of-encounter ability card from their hand, such as Asrah's Song of Rest (see Abilities)
  • use one end-of-encounter unique class ability, such as the Nyx's Holy Ministration
  • craft one item using treasure cards  from your hand
  • trade gold from your hand for an item or artifact from Vari's shop
  • use one item from your hand (such as a scroll of shield or a health potion)
  • discard as many of your ability cards as you like

6. Draw ability cards if you have fewer than five in your hand.
